Having questions about brushing when you have braces can be quite dangerous. In fact, it can lead to improperly caring for your teeth, gums and braces, which can severely affect your oral health and orthodontic journey. So, our orthodontist, Dr. Stacee Burson, strongly encourages you to find the answers to your questions. To help you, she is happy to provide the answers to the following commonly asked questions:

Question No. 1: How often should I brush?
Answer: It’s important to brush after each time you eat. While you brush, please use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. These tools can keep your smile and appliance clean and pristine.

Question No. 2: Why should I brush?
Answer: Brushing helps you remove the food particles, plaque, bacteria and debris that can harm your appliance, smile and oral health. Brushing can help you prevent major dental issues, like tooth decay and periodontal disease. It can also help you avoid having a food-filled smile when you socialize.

Question No. 3: Are there tools that make brushing easier?
Answer: There are many tools that make brushing more convenient and easier. One tool is the interdental brush. It can clean the hard-to-reach places in your appliance that your traditional toothbrush couldn’t clean. You could also use an electric toothbrush and let the brush do all the work for you!
