As a parent, you want your children to grow up with a strong and healthy mouth. Your child can get a head start with that if you begin their orthodontic care at a young age. We also recommend bringing your children in for an orthodontic screening by the time they turn 7.

Most people associate braces and other orthodontic treatments with teens and pre-teens, but many orthodontic issues are best treated at an earlier age. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that “all kids should get a checkup no later than the age of seven.”

By the age of 7, enough of your child’s adult teeth have grown in for Dr. Stacee Burson to determine if their teeth are growing in with a perfect bite, if their smile needs to be monitored for possible issues, or if they need treatment now to correct an issue that could become much more serious later on. Providing the right treatment at the best possible time is the goal.

By finding these potential issues early on, our orthodontist can more effectively guide the development of your child’s mouth. She can guide the jaw’s growth, lower the risk of permanent trauma to teeth that are erupting incorrectly, correct harmful oral habits, and guide the teeth into better position.

Having a well-aligned smile feels good and looks good. Bringing your children in for an orthodontic screening when they are 7 will give them the best chance to have a fantastic, healthy smile throughout their life. Kid’s that are not ready for early treatment are placed in our Kid’s Club. This is a completely free program that monitors growth and development and allows kids to play fun games and earn rewards until treatment is needed.
