If you’re interested in helping your child’s teeth grow into a straight and beautiful smile, it’s important to bring them to Orthodontics by Dr. Burson for their first consultation at an early age. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, it’s best to take your child in for their first orthodontic appointment by the time they are 7 years old.

Bringing them into our office at this age can be very beneficial for you and your child, even though your child won’t likely need orthodontic treatment at this time. This appointment can help your orthodontist, Dr. Stacee Burson, determine if your child will need treatment in the future. It will also give her the chance to help the teeth if there are minor alignment problems, which can help prevent major alignment issues in the future.

If your child does need treatment, they will likely begin their orthodontic journey around age 12-14, which is a time when the permanent teeth have grown into place and the jaw and teeth are still susceptible to change. This makes the orthodontic treatment a tad bit easier than if it was performed on an older smile. When your child aligns their teeth, they can use one of many appliances, like braces, ceramic braces, and clear aligners.
